Democrats Denounce Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Capital Punishment

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced fury after former President Donald Trump alleged a group of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and stated they should be taken into custody and penalized "with execution" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Content That Triggered the Dispute

The recorded message, published on Tuesday, features six Democratic elected officials who formerly acted in armed forces or defense capacities.

"Similar to us, you all took an vow to defend and support this founding document," the officials stated in the 90-second video. "At present, the risks to our democratic foundation are not only from foreign nations, but from within our own country. Our laws are unambiguous, you can refuse improper directives, you can reject illegal orders, you must refuse illegal orders. No one has to execute commands that contravene the statutes or our national charter."

Trump's Incensed Reply

The recorded statement appeared to provoke a angry reaction from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump posted on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he stated: "This is really serious, and Harmful to our United States. Their comments cannot be enabled to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders Answer

Following Trump's comments on that day, House Democratic leader released a combined statement denouncing the comments.

"Violent politics has no position in the United States," they declared. "Elected officials who were featured in the video all worked our nation with great loyalty and excellence. We clearly censure Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous calls for execution against congressional representatives, and urge House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in contact with law enforcement "to make certain the safety of these members and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these unhinged online messages and retract his aggressive language before he leads to violence," the announcement stated.

Representatives' Strong Answer

The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a declaration.

"We are ex-military personnel and national security professionals who value this United States and swore an pledge to defend and uphold the founding document of the United States," they stated. "This commitment is permanent, and we intend to keep it. No intimidation, coercion, or call for violence will prevent us from that sacred duty."

"The significant point is that the president views it liable to punishment by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their backs as they fulfill their vow to the founding principles and obligation to adhere to only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They continued: "The entire nation must join forces and censure the former president's demands for our death and ideological conflict. This is a time for moral clarity."

More Governmental Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's remarks and shared on digital platforms: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is requesting the capital punishment of public representatives."

He continued: "This represents an clear THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, all citizens – regardless of party – should censure this immediately and absolutely."

The Conservative official defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This represents very harmful, you have important representatives of Congress instructing soldiers to defy commands, I think that represents historic in US history."

The GOP official also reportedly stated to journalists that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "defining the crime of treason" but that "lawyers have to examine the wording and determine all that."

Administration Statement

During a administration briefing on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a media member, "Is the president want to put to death elected officials?", the administration spokesperson replied: "No."

"It's important to note about what the ex-commander in chief is reacting to," the official said. "You have current representatives of the federal government who worked together to arrange a recorded statement to personnel of the American armed forces, to current military personnel advising them to ignore the commander in chief's lawful orders."

She stated: "The purity of our defense system depends on the hierarchy, and if that system is violated, it can lead to fatalities, it can lead to chaos, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are essentially encouraging."
