Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant support from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period like this with performances this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
